A Quarter Midget car is a scaled-down version of an actual midget racer, approximately 1/4 scale.  The cars are built around a tubular frame and are fully suspended with springs or torsion bars and shocks.  The bodies are fiberglass, usually painted to the drivers preference. Surrounding the driver is a chrome-moly roll cage and nerf bars. The engines are single cylinder and are manufactured by Honda, Continental, Briggs & Stratton, and Deco. In the motors stock configuration they produce between 2.5 & 4 horse power. Modifications in the upper classes allow these engines to reach several times the stock horse power. These air-cooled 4-cycle engines are reliable and can produce as much as 10,000 rpm's in their more highly modified forms.
If you are thrilled at the idea of racing, you should attend an Arrive & Drive or a race at CCQMA. This will assist you in getting a better understanding of the sport.  Talk to some of the other parents at the track, as well as, the directors who run the club. After all, most have been in the sport for many years and continue to be captivated by the excitement.  Once you have joined CCQMA and QMA, the Novice Trainer will arrange for a time for your child to begin a required novice training program. After this is complee, usually 3 to 6 sessions depending on the child, your child is ready to start racing.
When you have decided to become involved in quarter midget racing, you must first purchase your car and safety equipment.  The car and safety equipment can be bought new or used.  The websites www.quartermidgets.org and www.quartermidgets.com are two great places to begin searching.  If possible, try to buy a car that includes safety equipment and additional parts.  At times you may have questions about your car and accompanying safety equipment, please do not hesistate to ask a CCQMA member.
A QMA application must be filled out by the handlers (parents).  You will need to submit a copy of a birth certificate for each driver listed.  Each handler will need to provide a 1x1 (only) photo for their QMA badge.
The cost to become a member is $150.  You must join a local club and QMA.  Your membership will enable you to race at any QMA track.  There is also an $80 refundable concession stand fee.  Each time you work at the concession stand you earn your fee back.
